I have massive respect for B2B marketers in traditional companies. You deal with sh*t that SaaS marketers can’t even imagine:
- Tiny budgets
- Fuzzy targets
- Sales hates the CRM
- New ideas face resistance
- Every change takes months
- Execs don’t see marketing’s value
- Long sales cycles hide your impact
- Marketing is stuck as “sales support”
Most advice online assumes SaaS conditions: digital-first org, fast cycles, modern stack. If you don’t have that, the playbooks fall apart.
So if LinkedIn makes you feel behind, remember - you’re solving a harder problem than most.
What should you do then?
Embrace the slow pace. Then focus on what matters:
- Nail your positioning and value props
- Define both short- and long-term revenue metrics
- Align tightly with Sales on accounts, metrics, messaging
- Talk to your audience about their pains and how they buy
- Create and distribute content that addresses those pains
- Run pilot projects to gather proof and break through resistance
- Sell your work internally and be the champion for modern marketing
Don’t get discouraged. Traditional companies move slowly, but if you build the foundations, the payoff is worth it.
